Zodiac (Widescreen)
|
| | | Based on a True Story. Features: DVD, Widescreen, Dolby, Digital Audio, English, Dolby Digital (5.1) Based on the actual case files of one of the most intriguing unsolved crimes in the nation's history, Zodiac is a thriller from David Fincher, director of Se7en and Panic Room. As a serial killer terrifies the San Francisco Bay Area and taunts police with his ciphers and letters, investigators in four jurisdictions search for the murderer. The case will become an obsession for four men as their lives and careers are built and destroyed by the endless trail of clues. "Fincher gets it all right..."Hurdy Gurdy Man," which bookends the story, has never sounded so hauntingly menacing." Maitland McDonagh, TV Guide "Rarely has a film with so much blood on its hands seemed so insistently alive." Manohla Dargis, The New York Times "...stoically gripping, police-blotter tone, yet it begins to take on the quality of a dream." Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly "A mind-bending, nonstop mesmerizer of a movie..." Peter Travers, Rolling Stone "...the rare serial-killer movie in which the psychosis stems as much from the pursuers (and the filmmaker) as the pursued." Scott Tobias, The Onion A.V. Club

David Fincher's most accomplished film to date is a true-crime masterpiece about the Zodiac, an enigmatic serial killer whose random approach to murder terrified Northern California throughout the late '60s and early '70s. Methodical and mesmerizing, the picture flirts with a three-hour run-time, features realistic depictions of senseless slaughter, and builds to an incomplete conclusion that is only satisfying when taken in context (for those unaware, the infamous cold case remains unsolved to this day)....read the full review |
| Zodiac - DVD Review By: Ed Perkis - Cinema Blend DVD Reviews Published on: 7/29/2007 9:30 AM | | Fincher doesn't infuse the movie with the visual tricks that fans of Se7en, Fight Club, and Panic Room might expect. Instead everything is played straight with the story, acting, and few moments of suspense intended to carry the day. The scenes where Zodiac meets up with his victims are chilling to watch and turn up the suspense ratchet, but the long wait in between, mostly discussions between the various combinations of cops and reporters, dilutes their impact. ...read the full review |
