Moonlight Mile
|
| | | In life and love, expect the unexpected. Features: DVD, Aspect Ratio 2.35:1, Dolby Digital (5.1) Oscar winners Dustin Hoffman (Best Actor, 1980, Kramer vs. Kramer), Susan Sarandon (Best Actress, 1996, Dead Man Walking), and Holly Hunter (Best Actress, 1994, The Piano) star with Jake Gyllenhaal (The Good Girl) in Moonlight Mile--an uplifting story of endearing honesty and humor. When Joe Nast (Gyllenhaal) experiences an unexpected loss, he wants to be the man he believes everyone wants him to be--the dutifully bereaved husband-to-be and the perfect would-be son-in-law to Ben (Hoffman) and Jojo (Sarandon). But then another woman unexpectedly enters his life, and he's torn between fulfilling his new roles and following his heart. "Moonlight Mile...is about grief and yet permits laughter." Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times "...feels authentic--in its grief, its hope, its eradicable sorrow and its outreach for happiness in the face of despair." Bridget Byrne, Boxoffice Magazine "Tackles the difficult subject of grief and loss with such life-embracing spirit that the theme doesn't drag an audience down." Kirk Honeycutt, Hollywood Reporter
Editor's Note
Starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Dustin Hoffman, and Susan Sarandon, MOONLIGHT MILE is a romantic drama set in 1966. Joe (Gyllenhaal) is grieving over the death of his fiancee, Diana, and is living with her parents, Ben (Hoffman) and JoJo (Sarandon). Though Joe just wants to do what's right, he openly admits that he has no plan, no answers, and needs time to sort things out. Meanwhile, Ben and JoJo cling to him as their only hope after losing their daughter, and the rest of the world expects him to bounce back into dating without a moment's pause. Joe's awkwardness and unquenchable efforts to be helpful provide for some touching and softly comedic moments. The New England setting of the film, the '60s cars and clothes, and the excellent soundtrack (Sly & The Family Stone, T-Rex, Bob Dylan) provide enough atmosphere to move this emotional story right along. But it isn't until Joe meets another woman (Ellen Pompeo), who also lost someone she loved, that he regains hope and begins to be true to himself and to the people around him.
