Heroes of War Collection -Frontline Combat

Features: DVD, 4 Pack

Get ready for some of the greatest dramatic retellings of classic American wars and battles with the Heroes Of War Collection: Frontline Combat! This 4-Pack DVD set includes the films D-DAY: THE 6TH OF JUNE, DECISION BEFORE DAWN, GUADALCANAL DIARY & HALLS OF MONTEZUMA.

D-DAY: THE 6TH OF JUNE: In this electrifying film, Robert Taylor portrays Captain Brad Parker, an American officer on the front lines on June 6, 1944 - D-Day - when 3,000,000 men, 11,000 planes and 4,000 ships will come together to invade Normandy and determine the world's future. And since Parker and his commander (Richard Todd) are in love with the same woman (Dana Wynter), the day's fighting will also determine which of two men can return home to her. Also featuring Edmond O'Brien, D-DAY: THE 6TH OF JUNE is a moving story of courage and sacrifice both on and off the battlefield.

DECISION BEFORE DAWN: A very realistic WWII action film, DECISION BEFORE DAWN was shot in 1951 on location in a war-ravaged Germany, using actual former POWs in many of the roles. In the final days of the war, the German Army is suffering but refuses to yield, so the Allied forces, led by Lt. Rennick (Richard Basehart), make the risky move of sending two POWs to infiltrate the enemy. Tiger (Hans Christian Blech) and Happy (Oskar Werner) now face bleak odds against the enormously efficient Gestapo, while Rennick has his own doubts about whether or not the men are trustworthy.

GUADALCANAL DIARY: Based on the best seller of the same name, GUADALCANAL DIARY is one of the greatest war movies of all time. This strikingly realistic film follows a devoted platoon of Marines through the terrors of war in the South Pacific. The all-star cast includes Lloyd Nolan, William Bendix, Preston Foster and Anthony Quinn as soldiers battling disease, treacherous terrain and unrelenting weather, as well as a human enemy. Poignantly narrated, and with explosive action rooted in a solid historical context, Guadalcanal Diary is action-packed entertainment from beginning to end.

HALLS OF MONTEZUMA: Richard Widmark leads an all-star cast of leathernecks including Jack Palance, Robert Wagner, Karl Malden, Richard Boone and Jack Webb, into battle on a heavily-fortified enemy island. Their objective is a Japanese rocket site in the island's interior, and this action-packed story follows the squad as they pick their way through enemy-infested jungles. In the process, the senior officer (Widmark) is transformed from a former school teacher into a combat-hardened leader, and his disparate squad of men is forged into a cohesive fighting unit.

"[D-Day] Well-executed study of WW2's Normandy invasion, with massive action shots..."  Leonard Maltin's Movie & Video Guide

Editor's Note

GUADALCANAL DIARY: Wartime account of the Marine invasion of the Solomon Islands during WWII. Clearly intended to bolster home-front morale, but the better-than-average cast of tough guys and the proximity of the release to the events themselves give the action an added urgency.

DECISION BEFORE DAWN: At the close of WWII, German defeat is almost within Allied grasp and many Germans are "defecting," offering their services as spies behind German lines. Col. Devlin is not taken in by their wiles, but there is one prisoner whose claims seem genuine, and he decides to send Karl Maurer (Oscar Werner) on a dangerous, top-secret mission. Will he prove trustworthy, or will he negate all that the Allies have gained so far? Klaus Kinski (AGUIRRE, WRATH OF GOD; MY BEST FIEND) appears in a cameo.

HALLS OF MONTEZUMA: Richard Widmark stars as Lt. Carl Anderson, a tough Marine officer who has been ordered to take a patrol and capture prisoners who must be interrogated about a Japanese experimental rocket-launching facility in the Pacific Islands. His platoon is split between weary veterans like Lt. Gilfilan (Richard Boone) and Pidgeon Lane (Jack Palance), and nervous recruits such as Coffman (Robert Wagner) and Cpl. Stuart Conroy (Richard Hylton). Despite his own ailments, Anderson must motivate this group of individuals to work as a unit.

D-DAY: THE SIXTH OF JUNE: Hollywood once again looks back at the undeniably compelling story of D-Day, this time through the device of two officers, one American and one British, facing the coming battle and recalling their love for the same woman. The movie is full of solid battle sequences, but the atypical plot is the hook.
